European Institute of Road Assessment (EIRA)

The European Institute of Road Assessment (EIRA) is a not-for-profit entity established under Slovenian law as a zavod in 2015 by board members of the European Road Assessment Programme (EuroRAP), an international not-for-profit membership organisation.

EIRA’s purpose is to promote road infrastructure safety and assessment of the in-built safety attributes of roads in Europe using EuroRAP protocols, which promote safer road infrastructure and are embedded in national road safety strategies across Europe.

EIRA specializes in the implementation of transnational cooperation projects with multiple stakeholders and in research and innovation projects related to road safety and road infrastructure safety. It works closely with European and international institutions and European Commission on fostering the implementation of the safe system approach and the role of infrastructure safety within it.

EIRA successfully led a €2.1m Road Assessment in Danube Area (RADAR) project in the Danube area with 9 project partners, 12 associated strategic partners, implemented in 13 countries, which was completed in November 2021. Currently, EIRA leads a €2.1m project SABRINA – Safer Bicycle Routes in Danube Area. The consortium includes 11 project partners and 4 associated strategic partners from 9 Danube Area countries.
